The No Diet, Diet Paul Jensen, Jr. What if there was a diet we could follow to lose fat permanently, increase our energy levels and optimize our health? What if this same diet allowed us to eat as much as we wanted until we felt full, made calorie-counting obsolete, and even allowed an occasional sweet? . Sounds too good to be true? Fortunately, thanks to William Wolcott and other pioneers of metabolic typing “The No Diet, Diet” does exist. What is so special about metabolic typing that separates it from other diets? Everyone’s body is as unique as a snowflake, inside and out. Therefore each person requires a certain combination of food (fuel mix) to run efficiently and be as healthy as possible. Metabolic typing is customized nutrition based on an individual’s biochemistry, racial and ethnic background and blood type. It is not the one-size-fits-all approach many other diet plans implement. Metabolic typing follows the philosophy that “One man’s food is another man’s poison” (3). Food is the fuel we feed our body’s 100-trillion cells. Our cells are like little engines of metabolism than require a certain fuel to perform efficiently and optimize health. One diet can supply the right fuel for one person and improve his/her health, while another person on the same fuel feels sick. Think of customized nutrition in another way. Imagine you were a zookeeper responsible for feeding and caring for all the animals in the zoo to help them be as healthy as possible. Lions are carnivores (meat-eaters) and elephants are herbivores (plant-eaters). Would you feed the lions the same food you would feed the elephants? I think from this example we can all agree that animals have to obtain their own unique fuel sources to stay healthy and would get sick and die if they consumed the wrong fuel. Humans also need a unique fuel source that varies greatly between individuals. For example, Eskimos thrive on a diet consisting of 90% animal protein and fat and only 10% plants (carbohydrate). In contrast, the Quetious Indians of South America live a healthy and vital existence eating 90% plants or carbohydrates and only 10% animal protein and fat. These people eat very differently because they are living in different environments and are surviving on the foods that are plentiful in that area. Like the elephants and lions, in the example above, research has shown that if you remove people from their natural environments, forcing them to eat differently, they develop chronic illness and disease that shortens their lives (2). Most diets fail because they recommend one diet plan for everyone without regard to people’s individual differences. To lose fat permanently, increase our energy levels and optimize our health we need to follow a diet that is right for our metabolic type. References: 1. Chek, Paul.
