Holiday Gifts That Inspire Fitness

The Holiday Season is synonymous with weight gain.  Too many parties to attend...  Too many sweets and treats to ward off...  Too many big meals to consume...  They all push the envelope of battle of the bulge.  Why not fight back by giving gifts that promote health and wellness at a time of the year when your family and friends can use it the most?

Here are some gift ideas that will inspire the recipient to get a jump start on the inevitable New Year's resolution.

Exercise Ball.  The popularity of the exercise ball is not unwarranted.  While the most popular exercise on the exercise ball is the abdominal crunch, the ball can actually be used as a drop in replacement for the traditional weight bench.  Nearly any exercise that can be performed on a weight bench can be performed with an exercise ball.  The advantage of using the ball over the bench includes the additional recruitment of stabilizer muscles, greater freedom of movement of the shoulder blades, and support for the shoulders when performing chest presses.  
Foam Roller.  Available in 3, 4 and 6 inch diameters, foam rollers are a great way to work out sore back, leg and hip muscles after a day at the office.  It's actually a form of self-massage with all of the benefits... it feels good and is good for you.  
Exercise Video.  If you like to workout in your living room instead of the local fitness center
